Hey Guys and Gals,

For my next project, Im going to tackle the DRK-1 Probe Droid. This droid didn't have much screen time, so finding accurate details could be tricky. However, some Star Wars props had elements or themes of other parts used in other props. I keep starring at the DRK-1 Probe Droid and think "Isn't it just the 2 x centres and sides of a Rebel or Tie Helmet with a TK shoulder strap in the middle for the top" ? LOL

Anyway, Ill start grabbing some resources and start building this guy. Im going to tackle this two ways. One, the old fashioned moulding, cutting, glueing, sand papering etc and second, modifying some 3D files.

Any suggestions or feedback is always welcomed Idea
That sounds like a cool build. Good luck, eager to see your approach.

Its a good size for a 3D print - I found a decent-ish model to start with on some online site, but the contact doesn't respond and it's not one of those downloadable (or even send to a print service models). Just a 3D model sitting there teasing me!
Our Wiki page for it is really... um... sparse http://www.rebeldroids.net/wiki/index.ph..._Eye_Probe
We have decent pix in the gallery from several angles. Not much showing scale - http://www.rebeldroids.net/forum/showthread.php?tid=236 and http://www.rebeldroids.net/gallery/thumb...p?album=67

I think there are camera angles to see most all of it.
FWIW: The online model I found that isn't very helpful - https://sketchfab.com/models/ce96ea38dfb...f7a6b8#_=_
Thanks for that info. I have actually seen the Sketchfab you mentioned. I have just contacted the author to see if he will share the file with me.

I got that ripped, and it's going to print terribly, so probably not worth the effort. (Not to mention he never replied to my mails either). The model doesn't have very many polygons and will be terribly faceted at 1:1 scale. (might be OK if it were a small ball, but it seems like it's pretty big - 9" across or so)

Anyhoo, a new 3D model is looking pretty good (actually much more accurate), but it needs a bit of work still. So.... patience Smile
I had contacted the artist, it to no avail. I was going to go down that exact same road you have done Kresty. So, that being said - back to the drawing board, and to make it the “old fashioned way”.

I would love the 3D file once it’s released. But, I would like to make it the old fashioned way as well. It’s always easy to print things and wait for files to become available. I still think everyone should have a crack at constructing items. In the coming years, we are going to be watching a generation just waiting for files to print.
